I am looking for a digital camera that will be used for a lot of at night or low-light shots as well as very close-up shots. Additionally, I would like a camera that is in the “compact” or “ultra-compact” category if possible. What are some suggestions for specific cameras, or, in general what features should I be looking for on cameras’ spec sheets that would tell me that the camera was good with low-light or up-close shots?

There are plenty articles on the internet about how digital photography in many ways is ahead of film in terms of quality, details and the like. One thing I do not understand is why you can still tell a difference if a photographs was taken using a digital camera or on film. Why moves are still shot on 35mm if digital technology is so great? I don’t know if it’s the way digital reacts to light, whereas film is more warmer and closer to the way a human eye percepts the light.

Please read the question people: I’m not talking about the obvious cameras that take a picture of you if you run a red light. I’m talking about the simple cameras mounted on top of the lights at intersections.
